Native Seed Collection

August 24, 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Learn which plants you can collect seed from, the best timing and seed treatment after collection, and more.

Collecting seeds from native plants in your garden is an ecologically friendly gardening practice that is also an inexpensive way of replicating plants in your garden. Learn which plants you can collect seed from, the best timing and seed treatment after collection, and more. During this walk, Chanticleer Horticulturist Przemek Walczak will discuss his favorite native plants to propagate and students will have an opportunity to try their hand at seed collection.

Instructor Bio

Przemek Walczak has been a Chanticleer Horticulturist since 1996. Over the course of 20 years, he has developed a native woodland garden along Bell’s Run Creek. The garden area needed soil remediation, tree canopy restoration, an understory, and an herbaceous plant layer. He also designs and builds water features, bridges, ornamental railings, and fences. Przemek holds an M.S. in Agriculture and Economics from the University of Live Sciences in Warsaw, Poland and he started his career in horticulture at the Center for the Preservation of Historic Landscapes in Poland. After relocating to the US, he continued his arboricultural studies at the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania.
