Glimpse the private lives of local artists with Mt. Airy Learning Tree and Historic Germantown

Start

If you’ve ever wondered how an artist’s sensibilities might manifest in their day-to-day, now is your chance to explore their habitats, where you can see first-hand how their artistic mediums and personal aesthetics both inform and reflect their home life.

For the past ten years Mt. Airy Learning Tree, a nonprofit community service organization that provides educational and recreational activities for the Northwest Philly community, and Historic Germantown, a partnership of 18 preserved historic museums, homes and destinations, have come together and created a tour that opens the doors of historic Germantown properties to the public. For the 10th Anniversary celebration of this tour, the program will be exhibiting the private homes of notable artists, allowing the community to see how these artists have “adapted their homes” to reflect their artistic mediums, according to the press release. Guests will also learn about the backgrounds and stories of these particular artists.

The tour, entitled “Artists at Home in the Old German Township,” will take place Sunday, October 27, from 11:30 AM-4:30 PM.

The opened homes will include Elfie Harris, sculptor and visual artist, Gina Michaels, a sculptor that merges human forms and botany in her work, and Karen Singer, a ceramic and visual artist who creates art for donor recognitions—from plaques and awards, to watercolor walls.

Proceeds from the tour will benefit Historic Germantown and Mt. Airy Learning Tree.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 on the day and are available by calling (215) 843-6333, or by visiting http://bit.ly/MALThousetour

Tickets can also be purchased on the day of the tour at Mount Airy Learning Tree, 6601 Greene Street, Philadelphia, PA 19119.
