DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Regal UA Main Street (3720 Main Street)\nParking: There should be plenty of parking in the theater lot. Our location is serviced by the Manayunk/Norristown regional rail and the 9\, 27\, and 61 buses. See transit map for details.\nBathrooms: We’ll stop to use the restrooms at the Cosmic Cafe about a quarter of the way through our ride.\nDistance: 17 miles\nAudience: Ages 18+\nRain Date: October 30\nJoin Trail Ambassadors Lisa Kleiman\, Jean McWilliams\, Sheryl Rose\, and Doug Gibson for a 2-wheeled cruise along the Schuylkill River! We’ll meet in Manayunk and then pedal across the Wissahickon Creek\, down Kelly Drive past the art museum\, along Schuylkill Banks and over the newest section – those cool cable-supported biker/walker bridges right in the river. The return will take us past the art museum and then on MLK Drive and over the Falls Bridge. Total distance: about 17 miles. We guarantee terrific views and river breezes the whole way!\nAt the end of this ride\, we will also offer a 3-4 mile add on along the Wissahickon bike trail to Historic Rittenhouse Town for those interested\, returning back to original starting point.\nRegistration is required for all events so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. This bike ride travels on the Schuylkill River Trail and MLK Drive which are shared with other bikers and with walkers\, so safe biking is very important. DESCRIPTION:PHILADELPHIA\, PA — Pennsylvania Interfaith Power & Light (PA IPL) and the Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Center (CCCEC) will host “Ready to Root: Tree Distribution Event” on October 20th at CCCEC\, located at 700 Cobbs Creek Parkway\, Philadelphia\, PA 19143. \nThis free community event is a celebration of urban forestry and grassroots tree leadership from increasing tree canopy equitably in Philadelphia. Attendees will enjoy partner tabling\, educational activities\, a guided tree walk around the Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Center\, and more. The primary purpose of the day is to distribute almost 1\,500 trees to the leaders and community distributors who pre-ordered trees with PA IPL for Fall 2026. \nA limited supply of no-cost trees for yards\, houses of worship\, public parks\, or other community spaces will also be available on a first-come\, first-served basis for those who did not place an advanced order. \nIn the afternoon\, (3-6pm) certified arborists and environmental educators will be facilitating “Tree Walks” in the park to teach proper tree care to attendees. Educators include representatives from Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Center and PHS. \nCommunity Event Schedule\, 3:00 – 6:00 PM:\n● 3:10pm\, open remarks\n● 3:30pm\, arbor walk on watering and mulching\n● 4:30pm\, arbor walk on tree pruning \nVolunteers are the backbone of this effort. The greatest need is for morning volunteers (8:00 AM– 2:00 PM) to help unload trees from the truck\, sort them\, and tag them by species. Afternoon volunteers (2:00 PM – 6:00 PM) will help continue sorting orders and passing out trees as people arrive to pick them up. In 2025\, Pennypack Trust began hosting a research team from Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories to study different methods—including silvicultural thinning and chemical injections—for slowing the progression of BLD and preserving one of our most heavily American beech-dominated forest tracts. Now that the experimental treatments have been completed\, researchers will monitor their effects on the trees over the next five years. Visitors will make their way through a sprawling multi-room space made to look like a fantastical\, metaphorical “airport”. Visitors will be invited to interact with components of the installation and may encounter docents in guiding roles. The experience will culminate in a “lounge” space full of “Bearded baggage” which will also serve as the performance site for the Now Hoarding: In-Flight Entertainment live event series. \nIt will take visitors approximately 60-75 minutes to view the entirety of the Priority Hoarding installation. Groups of 6 will enter the installation\, at 15-minute timed entry intervals. An opportunity to ride a Surrey bike is offered but not required.

DESCRIPTION:William Penn placed the city where it is because of the Schuylkill River\, guaranteeing the city and the river a prominent place in American history. Over time\, the Schuylkill has served the city and its industry\, first with a canal system and later with railroads and highways in the river’s flood plain. Factories and mills were built along its full length. Industry radically changed the river. Along with bringing farm products and coal to the city. The Schuylkill River provided drinking water. These purposes often collided; eventually drinking water won out. The environmental movement changed the river as radically as the industrial age had. In this exhibition\, participants from Color Me Back’s Kensington and Suburban Station sites explore ideas and stories through mixed-media artwork created with paint\, textiles\, or recycled materials\, using layers of rich color and texture to express their unique visions. \nAbout Color Me Back\nColor Me Back: A Same Day Work and Pay Program combines participatory art-making and access to social services in an innovative model that offers wage-earning opportunities to individuals experiencing economic insecurity. The program draws on the successful experiences of other cities in offering “same-day wages” to help address economic instability\, while transforming additional spaces through the power of collective good. Jengo in exploring Lewis & Clark's geological observations and their influence on 19th century scientific inquiry.\n\n\nWEEKNIGHTS AT THE WAGNER\n“The first reliable account”—The Geology of the Lewis and Clark Expedition\nThe 1803–06 expedition to explore the Louisiana Territory and the Pacific Northwest by Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark produced landmark discoveries in geography\, botany\, zoology\, and ethnology. However\, their mineral collecting and geological observations have long been underappreciated and at times unfairly maligned by expedition scholars. \nIn his new book\, Scenes of Visionary Enchantment: The Geology of the Lewis and Clark Expedition\, professional geologist John W. Jengo reassesses the pair’s role in documenting the geology of the American West and the impact on scientific inquiry. Through in-depth research into the expedition journals and geologial reports\, he argues that Lewis and Clark created an accurate account of the geology of the region and admirably fulfilled Thomas Jefferson’s instructions to document the “mineral productions of every kind” of the American West. \nRichly illustrated with dozens of photographs of the acclaimed 8\,000-mile-long Lewis and Clark Trail\, captured over a nearly 30-year period of travel\, research\, and discovery\, Jengo’s talk will trace the fate of the rock\, mineral\, and fossil specimens that Lewis and Clark collected. The presentation will conclude with a reappraisal of the geoscience content of the rephrased expedition journals published in 1814 and its broad influence on 19th-century scientific inquiry. \nAn evening lecture series\, Weeknights at the Wagner\, invites experts into our Victorian lecture hall to speak on a range of science and history of science related subjects. Jengo\, PG\, has a B.S. and M.S. in Geology and is a licensed Professional Geologist in several states. He spent most of his 44-year career conducting investigations and clean-ups of large\, complex\, and severely contaminated industrial sites throughout New Jersey\, Pennsylvania\, and Delaware\, in addition to dozens of petroleum\, chemical\, manufacturing\, and coal ash disposal sites through the Northeast and Southeast. Since 2008\, he has planned\, managed\, and supervised five dam removals in New Jersey to restore ecologically significant migratory fish spawning runs for American shad\, river herring\, and other species. \nA long-standing member of the Lewis and Clark Trail Alliance\, Jengo has traveled extensively along the 8\,000-mile-long Lewis and Clark Trail over the past three decades and authored more than a dozen articles about the geological observations\, mineralogical collection\, scientific context and influence of the Lewis and Clark expedition.
